GAYS in 2018

Welcome to 2018!
We have concluded our annual planning meeting – and it looks like it’s going to be an exciting year!
We have cruises to all the best local areas, plus an exciting trip to the British Virgin Islands in June! Be sure to check the calendar for all the events we have planned.

While 2017 had it’s ups and downs, particularly with the weather, I know that 2018 will be a great year for GAYS. We have new members who are showing interest in being active and old members ready to face the challenges of making sure we have a fun, safe, and memorable time on the water. If you have interest in volunteering for anything, leading a cruise, or wanting to help with administrative duties – let me know! We will also be holding our officer elections soon, be sure to put your name in the running if you’re interested.

I’m very excited to announce we will be holding our annual party at the Houston Yacht Club. It was a great time last year and helped solidify us as a club. When I think back to that party, I think of that as the beginning of the GAYS. I hope this will be an annual event that we can use to commemorate our humble beginnings and celebrate where we are heading.
As I reflected on our last year before the planning meeting, I continued to feel we had spent most of the year enjoying ourselves with people we usually see and already know. I’d like to make sure we remain focused on our mission this year and get new members to join us. It’s very important that we continue to make sure LGBT (and our fantastic allies) boaters know they are welcome in Clear Lake and Galveston Bay (and beyond!). Our booth at the upcoming Galveston Pride is a great example of propelling our mission and I am very excited we will be there.

I look forward to a wonderful year with all of you and welcoming the new people we meet along our journey this year.
Fair winds and following seas and long may your big jib draw!

  1. Michael:
Thank you for leading us through the first year. You took on the entire organization, set up and transformation of a new club. And this included everything. Website, IRS designation, Bank Account, Calendar, club materials design, along with other behind the scenes actions. You made sure that everything was covered and that we would all have a fantastic time during the first year. It is not always easy to take a small discussion over coffee through to fruition. Now look at the club, with members all over the United States and Canada. You also made sure that we will be propelled forward to even greater times and fun.
Thank you Michael, we all thank you.
